Grant Will Fund PCCY’S Advocacy Initiatives
(PHILADELPHIA) July 7th, 2013 – To further its mission of improving the lives and life opportunities for children in the Greater Philadelphia area, Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) is proud to announce receiving a grant of $40,000 from The Philadelphia Foundation. The announcement was made by R. Andrew Swinney, President of the Foundation, whose Board of Managers approved the grant on June 3rd, 2013.
PCCY Executive Director, Donna Cooper, was thrilled by the Foundation’s decision to support PCCY for another consecutive year. Cooper said the grant will be used to fund the organizations advocacy for children including pushing for improved public schools and greater access to quality early learning program and health care for children. “We are truly grateful and honored that an organization as distinguished as The Philadelphia Foundation choose PCCY for this generous grant. These funds will go a long way in helping us continue to fight on behalf of our region’s children to ensure they get all the tools they need to be successful.”
Founded in 1980, PCCY works to improve the lives and life chances of children in the Delaware Valley. For over 30 years, the organization has advocated on the behalf of kids to be a catalyst for positive change. PCCY’s goals have always been to increase the awareness of children’s needs; increase the resources for children and families; strengthen families and communities in helping children learn and grow and assure implementation of funding of public policies which promote stable children and families. Cooper notes “the future of our city and our region is unequivocally linked to our children. The better they do, the better we all do.”
Since 1918, The Philadelphia Foundation has been committed to improving the quality of life in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. It links those with financial resources to those who serve societal needs. The foundation grows the more than 800 charitable funds established by its donors and distributes about $20 million annually in grants and scholarships to about 1,000 effective nonprofit organizations.
