Organizations call on Phila. City Council for school funding (video) – WPVI-TV – March 13, 2014

An alliance of Philadelphia organizations are calling on Philadelphia City Council to pass legislation to ensure funding for city schools.

The groups held a joint press conference Thursday at City Hall.

They urged City Council to enable the 1 percent sales tax extension in order to allocate $120 million from those revenues.

“Yes we will continue to apply the pressure upon the governor and our state election officials. However home must take care of home and do what is needed,” said Rev. Dr. Kevin Johnson, POWER.

The groups also want City Council to find sustainable options for meeting the district’s new funding request of $75 million for the next school year.
