What: Mothers converge on the Pennsylvania State Capitol to deliver and read from some of the THOUSANDS of letters from students, urging lawmakers to support funding for Philadelphia public schools.

Why: The Philadelphia school district faces a $304 million dollar budget deficit. The district is reaching out to the state for $120 million to help prevent catastrophic cuts. Without it the district will be forced to implement its “doomsday budget” which would cost nearly 3,800 teachers, aids, counselors and others their jobs, and deprive children of crucial programs including, art, music, athletics, etc.
