What a reveal! – June 8, 2021

“Wow!”

Five eye-catching mosaics  created by the students, staff, and parents of the Bayard Taylor Elementary School in Hunting Park — are proudly on display! Just eight years ago, the Taylor School was targeted to be shuttered, but they fought back and now are a beacon of hope for their students and community.

Each mosaic illustrates a Taylor School core value: community, compassion, high expectations, integrity, and joy, and was made possible by support from PCCY’s Picasso Project and teaching artist Jessica Liddell from Bella Mosaic.

Amy Koslowsky, Taylor School Visual Arts teacher, noted that the outside of their school now reflects the energy and creativity that’s happening inside the building.

Last Friday, over 100 people attended a fun and festive dedication ceremony with special guests Mayor Jim Kenney, Superintendent William Hite, and state Representative Danilo Burgos.

But the stars of the show were the young student artists! In English and Spanish, they bravely took center stage to say how important this project was to them, how it was something they really looked forward to about coming to school, and how it helped them during the pandemic.

Thank you to all of our Picasso Project schools, teachers, artists, and donors who support art in schools – our kids need it and love it!
